How I Actually Use Claude (And You Can Too), Hunter Masters, showheroff.com/how-to-use-claude/ [00:00] Hey, I'm Hunter, and I have spent, oh man, 700 hours the last two to three months, because I track my time, using AI. So I want to give you a crash course. I'm by no means saying I'm an expert and I know everything, but I wasted a lot of time. So I'm going to plow through some examples. And don't worry if these are not things you'd want to do in particular. You can do anything like this. There are three things I want to pass on. [00:33] Number one, we don't type. You've got to speak, because it's so much faster. I use the Spokenly app, I'll talk about that at the end. It's free, it's not mine. The second thing is skills and the importance of skills. And the third is that you can connect to anything, and that really unlocks time and gets you out of UI, or user interface, clicking things. That's the enemy. So I've got Claude Code loaded here. One thing I've learned coaching people with AI is it's faster to just do it instead of me sitting here telling you. So watch, because you'll get your own ideas and you'll begin to see what's possible. [01:21] So we're just going to get cooking. I need to plan my meals for the week. I have some ribeye steak in the fridge and butter and some basic spices, but that's about it. So I have to go meal shopping. But first, I want you to give me five meal ideas. I don't mind eating the same thing every day, but I want to see five. I need some vegetables. I don't like zucchini. A salad, maybe, and let's say some rice. I have a grill, that's how I prefer to cook my steak. [01:59] I don't mind using a stovetop as well, but nothing in the oven. So let me know some ideas and then I'll pick them, and then we'll do a meal list for Whole Foods. That's where I do my shopping. Alright, so you just talk and say what you want. [02:15] Alright, so here I'm going to show, let's say you had a folder like this with a bunch of stuff in it, and you want to organize your files. How do I organize my files with Claude Code? And you can do any of this with GPT as well. Now GPT's Codex is what you'd have to download. But this is the desktop app. So you have to use a desktop app. That's on a paid plan. I think 20 bucks a month is the starter. [02:40] Let's go ahead and get that cleaned up. Okay, I want you to look at the downloads demo folder. I've got a bunch of files in there. I forget what's in there. I want you to propose to me how you'd organize it. I want it organized and renamed, and if there's anything in there that needs to be brought to my attention, let me know. Just one to three things max. I don't need to see 500 things. So you're always kind of particular. And as you can see, you can have multiple things going. [03:10] This is where it gets... you don't have to do this right away. You can start small, but just showing you so you're not sitting there waiting. Let me stop that. Okay, let me start it. So go ahead and look at the Withings MCP connector. Look at my weight and body fat and muscle mass for this month in August and compare it to last month. I feel like I haven't been working out, because I'm getting fat because I'm just sitting here doing AI. But I'm ready to start working out again, and I want to see where I'm at. [03:43] Okay, and so when I talk about connecting things, this is connected to Withings, which is my body scale. There's all kinds of scales that read your body weight and body fat and all that, and you can connect to those so that it can get the data, like we got right here. So did I not say compare it to August of last year? Let's see how I look compared to August of last year. But already we can see muscle mass is going down, body fat's kind of going up. Not surprising, because I'm not working out. And yeah, so there we go, two points up in body fat and three pounds down in muscle mass. [04:32] Alright, let's go ahead and give me a workout plan. Three times a week is when I'm going to work out, at my home gym. I've got all the main equipment. I want to do bench press for sure, and dips, but give me a plan that's going to help increase muscle mass, and it's three times a week, and 45 minutes to 60 minutes max is what I'm willing to spend right now. So you can put in all the criteria. And because I'm moving fast, we could say, hey, go search the internet. I wouldn't say search the internet, but if there's a workout site you like, go check the site, find the best workouts, let's talk about it, etc. [05:17] And same for the meal planning. If you have recipe sites that you like or whatever, you can tell it to go look and get that. Or if you have a bunch of recipes on your computer, you can add those in and it can look at that. So it's really just a super cruncher here. Okay, so it's the download demo folder inside of the messy demo. So it's getting confused here. So it's like, alright, I'll take a screenshot, and I do a lot of screenshots, and just drop this in. [06:00] Let's go back to the meals. And so you can see when you get a lot, it's like, whoo, you're bouncing. And you don't have to do all three. But okay. Let's just say I like these. Yeah, these all sound good. Go ahead and give me the Whole Foods list, please. And you'll see where we're going. So the last thing, too, as you use it more, is you always want to have somewhere you're trying to land. So I just call this piloting, because I'm trying to get somewhere. [06:29] And what I want to get to is action, so getting all this stuff to me in an easy way to do it. And I'll show you that at the end, and also the skill. So that all looks good, and then here it's got the things for my attention. It looked at the files, so it's giving me proposed structure. So here's what it is. So let's just, for speed, I'll say, yeah, this looks good. Okay, yeah, that all looks good. I've paid the invoices, and go ahead and put "return the shoes by the 30th" on my calendar, the Claude calendar, and anything else in there that has a date that needs my attention, put it on my calendar. [07:18] Right. So see how we're deleting steps and getting stuff moved. So it's connected to my Google Calendar, so it can just put stuff on there. Now you can connect it to your Google Calendar or whatever calendar you're using. Or if you don't want to connect it, you can just say, hey, give me a note and I'll print it out, or however you want. But the connecting to anything is really a huge part. And don't worry if you're like, well, how do I connect to something? [07:44] It's like, well, you can just talk to Code and tell it what you want. I want to have my weight tracked, or I want to check my finances, whatever it is, and work through, okay, how can we get everything we need connected? So here it made a workout plan. And just again for speed, I'll say, okay, workout looks good. Yeah, the workout looks good. Go ahead and put it into Hevy. My Hevy app, as the routine name, call it Claude Workout Demo. [08:22] Right. So before, if we found a workout that we liked, we'd have to type it manually on our phone or print it out and bring it to the gym, whatever. Well, because I've connected Claude to the Hevy app, and Hevy is the workout app that I use, Claude can just put the workout right in there. So boom, done. And then it can check, if I want, to see how I've been working out, if I need that accountability or whatnot. [08:53] And so here it put the events in the calendar. Let's check that. Boom. So it's putting stuff in the calendar, and then I can have it take it off or whatever. So this is just quick, so hopefully you get a sense of, wow, what's possible here? And then the last thing is, okay, alright, go ahead and let's build my week page. With this, plus I have another session where it just did my workouts. I've already got the workouts in the Hevy app, so you don't need to tell me that, but I need you to find three evenings this week, this upcoming week, starting on Monday, Monday through Sunday, that I can put my workouts in the calendar for me. [09:43] And then build a my week page based off of this. So what I'm having it do is building a page real quick. I already built it before just to make sure that everything was good and we can go fast here. So we'll see what it builds again, but just for speed, this is what I had it build last time. So now again, you may be thinking, oh, I don't have a website. Well, first of all you can get one very cheap and Claude can build it and set it up for you. But you don't have to have a website. It can be an HTML file that you open on your computer or your phone, or you can tell it that you want it on your phone and it'll give it to you in a way that you can have it on your phone. [10:27] So that's a fast way of getting what you want organized and brought to your attention. And you even saw I can click on this. And we could build it out even more, like, oh, when I click on something, text somebody that I finished it, or text me "good job", or text me at the end of the night that I finished, whatever. And now it's got it in the phone app. Okay, so we got the workout in there. [10:58] Here's the... okay. So this one made it more focused on the grocery list. So let's say it looks good. Now here's the fun part. So alright, yeah, this looks good. Go ahead and deploy it as week 17 on showheroff.com. So when you've connected it, you can deploy something. And then now let's say I didn't like this layout. Claude Design is really cool. Claude Design is slow, takes a little while, so I already did this, but you can open Claude Design. [11:36] I gave it this page, and I said, hey, I don't like this, I kind of want three different design ideas. It asked me a couple of questions, and then it presented these different options. And if I didn't like these or I wanted to tweak it, I could just talk and get it done. Once I get it to where I want to ship it, it gives me the HTML file, then I come back to Code and deploy it. Now again, that could be for flyers, you could make a nice meal planning or chores list. It doesn't have to be this specific stuff, but hopefully this is helpful, and you can see what's possible. [12:17] So the last bit is on skills. So there it is. So there's the page. That's cool. So skills is a way to really speed up time. And let's say, for example, in this meal planning session, I did a lot of back and forth with it about, no, I like these recipes and I don't like these, and here's how I cook, whatever. Once you get to the end of the session, say, okay, great, turn this into the meal planning skill, or the meal prep skill, whatever you want to call it. [12:56] Then the next time, say a week later, you want to come up with some ideas, you start a new session, and you say load the meal planning skill, and it will have all the information about what you like and don't like, so you don't have to redo that work. And you say load the meal planning skill and let's plan five meals for the week. And it's the same thing if you're doing household chores or family planning, or family chores, finances, any of it. [13:26] That's allowing you to put your knowledge in and save it and keep going forward. So let's build a skill for you guys, or anybody watching this, on the Spokenly app, or voice prompting. So again, Spokenly is free. And Whisper is, I think, another one. There's probably other ones, but that's just what I use. So, alright, I want to build a skill. Look at the weekly demo folder and the start here skill that has a rough draft, but I want to build a skill for the viewers based on this article and this video. [14:05] First we need to walk them through, get them set up on Spokenly. Put that into the skill so it'll walk them through how to do that. And then I think the next parts I already put in there, as far as helping them start their first session of either trying to connect to something, or planning through what they could use Claude or GPT for to help them. So put that in and let it go. And then what you can do is, I'll put the skill underneath this video, and you can download the skill. And again, you have to use desktop, Claude Desktop, or Codex for GPT, and you can load the skill. [14:49] I think, again, paid plans, but you can load the skill and it will start walking you through. Okay, here's how to set up Spokenly, and it'll walk you through planning out whatever it is you want to accomplish. And again, none of this is going to do anything without your permission. You see, I've got bypass permissions on because I want to go fast, otherwise it's going to keep asking me for permission every time. If you're just starting out, don't jump into that, start slow, get comfortable with it. [15:17] And you don't ever have to do bypass permissions. It's up to you. However you want to pilot is how you can pilot. But this skill will save you a lot of time as far as getting things started. And you could spend, let's say the skill will get you up and running in 15, 30 minutes. You can spend two hours watching YouTube videos or reading articles about AI, and it's just so much faster if you have a good skill and you're in there doing it. [15:47] So hopefully that gave you some good ideas. I'll finish getting this skill built. And if you need some help or want to get started, go deeper with AI, you can click the link down below to book a session with me. But there should be a lot here for you to do and explore and play with, and hope it helps.
